Just one trap, a 125W Robinson in the Back Garden. A very wind night, with a forecast for heavy rain from midnight onwards, so just the one trap sheltered from the worst of the wind and rain. The hope of a surprise, unexpected rarity, did not happen. Ten moths of 7 species.

Species List for 20/10/2026

Four traps, a 125W Robinson in the Back Garden, a 125W MV Robinson in the Greenhouse Garden, a 15W Actinic in the Front Garden, and a 80W MV Skinner in the Pond Garden. A wet windy day was followed by a night with an E wind gusting to 35 mph. I debated whether to put the traps out, and did. The results indicate it wasn't a great decision. There were 41moths of 16 species.

After a two day gap, appreciating the rather awful weather a calm night arrived and the traps were on again. There were 218 moths of 34 species including a Cabbage moth, the latest date I've had,

 Four traps, a 125W Robinson in the Back Garden, a 125W MV Robinson in the Greenhouse Garden, a 15W Actinic in the Front Garden, and a 80W MV Skinner in the Pond Garden. After last night the cold snap arrived and the temperature dropped to  7.5 deg C over night with a 15 mph NW wind. Consequently there were far fewer moths. The Uncertain is the only October record I have and the previous latest, 9th Sept 2001, is the only September record I have. There were just 76 moths of 24 species.

The Uncertain

Species List for 15/10/2026

Four traps, a 125W Robinson in the Back Garden, a 125W MV Robinson in the Greenhouse Garden, a 15W Actinic in the Front Garden, and a 80W MV Skinner in the Pond Garden. An amazing night for mid October. A warm night with a minimum of 15 deg C and a light SW wind brought a catch of 329 moths of 51 species with four NFY including one new for the site. A Cosmopolitan was just the third here after singles in  2006 and 2023.
