Species List for 2/9/2012

At long last I've got my Actinic trap functioning again, and last night all four traps were in operation. In total I caught 498 moths of 47 Species. Just for fun, and without trying to draw any conclusions here are the individual totals for the traps and also the number of moths that only appeared in that trap.

 Such a small moth for a Noctuid!

 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing (Noctua janthe)

 A very fresh and well marked specimen. I can't remember seeing many with such a distinctive central dark band.

I always like this group of pyradids, at this time of year it is possible that this is a migrants.

As usual at this time of year Setaceous Hebrew Characters dominated, but there were five new species for the year. Although there was nothing exceptional the Annulet was only the third I've caught here and was a year and a day after the last.
