The weather was bad enough for me to at first abandon mothing last night. However I then hit on the idea of running my MV trap at one open window of my "mothing" conservatory, and my Actinic at another. The first moth that arrived was another Rannoch Looper (the first four were still in the fridge). Not a vintage catch but a Diamond-back Moth was another migrant and the first Celypha lacunana and Green Pugs of the year.

Rannoch Loopers Little variaition in the four specimens caught. Two in my MV trap and two in the Actinic, surprisingly none in the two Black bulb traps. Both of these are good for pugs and other geometers.

New Macros for the year were Rannoch Looper, Broken-barred Carpet, Tawny Speckled Pug and Straw Dot. New micros, Lozotaenia forsterana and Green Oak Tortrix. The third year I've recorded Rannoch Looper, but the earliest date and four in one night for the first time. The Broken-barred Carpet was only the second record.

White Spot (Hadena albimacula)

This is a red data species with a stronghold on the chalk cliffs of the south coast. The larval food plant is Nottingham Catchfly (Silene nutans), caterpillars feed on the seeds at night.
