A couple more migrants, a first Scarce Bordered Straw for the year and a second Pearly Underwing. My apples my be riddled given the number of postvittana I'm catching. Other than that just one more micro moth and 287 macro moths, ( 148 Setaceous Hebrew Characters) but only 22 Species.
Scarce Bordered Straw, a scarce immigrant, but one that has featured strongly here previously, I trapped 163 in the invasion of 2006.
From this view it is difficult to see one of the best features of a Pearly underwing that can bee been without opening up the wing.
Pearly Underwings have a really striking "Punk" hairstyle, still fashionable in some continental football teams!
A Dark Chestnut, showing the slightly hook shaped wing, on the left side. Unfortunately there's a bit of damage on the right side.

I've heard the hairstyle described before but a picture paints a thousand words, hope you don't mind me ripping off your picture, I'd like to put it alongside a similar shot of a Turnip Moth. Cheers Tony
ReplyDeleteSure Trent, that's fine, a link and a credit would be good (:
DeleteCheers Tony, I've added the pics to my last blog post 4th oct, quite a good comparison. Turnip doesn't have the elongated hairdo at the back.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to have the chance to compare in the field (garden) as I haven't recorded P.U'wing but may have overlooked it before
