Species List for 21/08/2025

 Four traps run. An 80W MV Robinson in the Pond Garden, a 15W Actinic in the Front Garden, a 80W MV Skinner in the Greenhouse Garden and a 125W Robinson in the Back Garden.There were 233 moths of 39 species with two NFY. Although there was another Striped Hawk-moth (the 3rd this year) on the 19th, the traps have been dominated by Setaceous Hebrew Characters, Common Wainscots and Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwings, and I fancied a rest from counting them. At the last minute the thought that there must be something else worth tapping persuaded me to put the traps out. Whether it was worth it or not depends on whether you value scarcity or aesthetic beauty highest. This Great Brocade wass the first I have caught since 2021 when there were two records, 16th and 17th July, which could have been a retrap, before that there were two in 2006. Looking at photos these were all beautiful well marked individuals. Last night's was very far from that.
